Waterfront Toronto / Annual Reports + Strategic Plans

Twice yearly Waterfront Toronto issues an Integrated Annual Report and a Strategic Plan that captures its progress against all dimensions of the organization’s work — from how the organization deploys financial resources to how it delivers public benefits like green space and affordable housing. Design Holmen, together with Bespoke and writer Amy Langstaff worked on a total of 13 reports across 6 years, creating clear, approachable and visually engaging documents that aimed to educate the public about Waterfront Toronto’s work and the difference it makes for Toronto, Ontario and Canada.

For every report a new theme is created. For example: the 2021 Integrated Annual Report focused on the idea of Connecting the Waterfront. Toronto became a city because of its proximity to waterways and Lake Ontario. Over time, as shipping and industrial activity grew along the shore, local life became cut off from the lake. The theme reflects Waterfront Toronto’s work to restore that connection, creating neighbourhoods and green spaces that reorient the city toward the water. Many other themes have been explored such as this year’s theme of “Landscape & Legacy”.

While all reports have been complex, information rich and fast paced editorial and visual challenges, every single one of them since 2018 have received united praise from the Waterfront Toronto Board and three levels of government.
